MSU Heads to Take on Rutgers & a Discussion on Bediako

January 25, 2026: The Spartans have their final game of the first half of the conference schedule on Tuesday night in Piscataway, NJ against a beleaguered Rutgers squad. MSU is coming off a 43 point thrashing of the Terrapins with their rival looming less than a week away in East Lansing. This game will certainly be a challenge for Fears and company to avoid the trap on the road and not look ahead to the Wolverines.

Fortunately, the Scarlet Knights are a very bad team. Despite Pikiell’s early success in New Jersey, it appears that the program has now completely unravelled as they struggle to compete on the court and against other schools’ donor classes. The culture that had been created by Pikiell of toughness seems to be lost and Rutgers and we have to wonder if his days are numbered.

For the Spartans, it is another opportunity to continue working on their connectedness on defense. Can they continue to rebound and score? Will their transition game get even better? Can they find another gear on offense and improve inside the arc - a usual staple of successful Izzo teams? Most importantly, can they stay focused on this game with Michigan looming on the horizon?

Charles Bediako left his G-League team a few days ago and has returned to his prior team of Alabama. It seems that now just about all the seals have been broken for a return to college by an NBA player. Will it happen next year?
