E11 | Sean Carey | Building Care Home Cricket For The Forgotten Generation
The Final Innings PodcastEpisode Notes
Our guest this week may not be the most famous person we’ve had on the show.
But just because he hasn’t scored a century at lord’s, or hasn’t commentated on a world cup final, does not mean his story is any less worthy of our time.
On the contrary in fact, Director of Clock Cricket CIC Sean Carey’s day job - which he sees more as a privilege than a job - is to bring one of the most inclusive forms of cricket to the forgotten generation.
When I say inclusive, I mean it. From the carers to the cared for, from stroke recovery units to care homes, clock cricket is for everyone: Queue Sean’s impromptu catchphrase: Don’t just stand there, if you’re in the room, your playing. Just as the suited and booted Clinical Directors who stumble upon a game, and finding themselves scoring 6 runs for hitting the ceiling minutes later.
Above all, though, it’s about helping people to live well. As Sean say, his job is simple: “We go in and we throw a ball at people, we'll give them some exercise and make them happy for an hour.” --- Want clips, bonus content and more? Follow our socials!
