LIFETIME OF MEMORIES: Cats came out flat against the Rangers, but the Outdoor game was a success!

On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) brought in Florida Panthers/Marlins Historian(@FLACatsHistory and @MarlinsHistory) Francisco Oporta to the show to break down the 2026 NHL Winter Classic from LoanDepot Park in Little Havana. The hype up to the event was everything that South Florida fans could ask for with the amount of people arriving from the start, to the player arrivals, and then the lead up to the game. The actual game itself was not so great for the Panthers where they had almost double the amount of shots than the Rangers, but it was New York who was getting more of the high danger opportunities with screens and being able to get to the middle of the ice off the rush. It was the top end stars of the Rangers that came to play where they were one getting in on all the scoring, especially Mika Zibanijad and Artemi Panarin. Zibanijad scored the first Winter Classic Hat trick ever (third ever in an outdoor game) as the New York Rangers are now 6-0-0 in outdoor games. Did the quality of the ice have to do with the Panthers looking to play more of their dump-and-chase game? There were signs of the Panthers tilting the ice their way similarly to their Conference Final matchup from 2024, so encouraging the amount of time they had in the Rangers end. However, now it's time to turn the page as it's the first losing streak of two since early December, and although the Panthers deserve a lot of credit for climbing back up the standings, they have quickly gotten themselves on the outside looking in. Sunday's game against Colorado will officially reach the halfway point as they face a must-win before hitting the road.
