HURT 100 - The Toughest Race in the World

Known for its relentless terrain, humidity, and technical trails, it’s widely considered one of the most difficult 100-mile races in the world. The course consists of five nearly identical loops through narrow jungle singletrack, with constant climbing and descending, exposed roots, volcanic rock, mud, and long stretches of darkness. Over the years, only about 42% of runners who start the race make it to the finish line. In this video, I travel to Hawaii to pace my friend Ben Winckler during this year’s HURT 100. Before race day, Bree and I spend a few days exploring the island and getting adjusted before the focus shifts entirely to the race. From pre-race check-in to on-course updates and pacing through some of the hardest miles, this is a behind-the-scenes look at what makes the HURT 100 so challenging—and what it takes just to keep moving forward.
