Terrell Owens chose to play in the Super Bowl with a broken leg
How far would you go to achieve your ultimate goal? Would ya do it if it involved potentially harming your livelihood? Or would you rather I stop the hypothetical questions and give ya more context? Fine. Three weeks before the 2004 NFL postseason, the red-hot 12-1 Philadelphia Eagles lost their engine on offense when wide receiver Terelll Owens severely broke his leg. T.O.’s injury required him to undergo surgery, inserting a metal plate and screws in his leg. Ten weeks, at best, was the expected time to heal. Even if Philly were to make a seven-week deep playoff run to the title, specialists believed Owens would be throwing his career away if he made a return. Sure, Philly made it to the Super Bowl, and Owens hinted at playing, but the medical world thought he would be foolish to do so. T.O.’s own surgeon didn’t clear him to play. SO WHY THE HELL IS HE PLAYING HERE?!? T.O.’s decision to play in the Super Bowl was a big deal. Shaq’s beef with Pat Riley saw benching, fake-injury accusations, and nearly came to blows
After winning a title on the Heat in 2006, Shaq and Pat Riley couldn't hold it together and turned on each other pretty fast. I guess when you're used to winning, you really can't tolerate losing and someone must be blamed. For Riley, Shaq fit the bill. And for Shaq, well, how dare Pat Riley do such a thing. So, naturally, you get two guys in each other faces ready to punch each other because Jason Williams was late to practice one day. In other words, you get beef. Please enjoy this heaping helping of Miami beef. The birth of the internet, according to Jon Bois
This video has been brought to you by our Patrons. If it weren't for them, we couldn't have made it! That's why they got first crack at it earlier in the year, so if you want to help us make cool, big, special things and then get it as soon as it's produced, join us over at https://www.patreon.com/secretbase Throughout humankind’s journey, we’ve often been led forward, or backward, by Tims and Als. Tim “The Tool Man” Taylor, the face of the beloved 1990s sitcom “Home Improvement,” was a thoughtless, inconsiderate, and calamity-prone doofus. Al Borland, his co-host of the show-within-a-show “Tool Time,” was the counterbalancing figure Tim required: wise, mature, empathetic, and an exceptionally skilled craftsman. In the 1800s, the Internet began with a Tim and an Al: the guy you know, Samuel F.B. Morse, and the guy you probably don't, Alfred Vail. In Part 1 of "Fool Time," we explore a partnership that should have worked beautifully if one of them wasn't an attention-desperate entitled no-talent crybaby hack. Lane Kiffin’s speedrun beef with the entire SEC (including his own school)
Lane. Buddy. Did you really not learn? Real quick, if you like what we've got going on here, then think you'll love what we're making over on https://www.patreon.com/secretbase Lane Kiffin has been college football’s wildcard since he hit the scene. We may not have realized it at the time, but the man with his fingerprints all over the Matt Leinart-Reggie Bush megapowered offense at USC was on his way to take over the Southeastern Conference. Granted, after his first stint in the SEC, that really seemed impossible. Kiffin showed up thanks to Tennessee. He replaced the Volunteer legend Phil Fulmer in 2009, and lasted barely more than a year before retreating back to sunny California. However, during that year, amidst a single season of chaos, Kiffin left an impression on those with opinions most respected in all of college football. Sure, he antagonized. And yeah, he heard from the NCAA a good amount for his recruiting tactics. But he showed up to an old-school, hard-nosed conference and did things his own way. So while this is a story of beef between one man and an entire conference, it is also the stage setting for one of college football’s most unexpected twists: how Lane Kiffin became the most sought-after coach in the entire sport. The Chiefs' decision to trade Alex Smith was a big deal
The thrill of gambling is the opportunity to hit big, and the Kansas City Chiefs won the jackpot. However, playing with fire can get ya ass burnt. After a decade of poor-to-middling seasons, Kansas City had already struck gold and entered a new era of success in the early 2010s, led by quarterback Alex Smith. He’d reached heights the franchise hadn’t seen in years, if ever, and was considered by some a Chiefs legend. So how exactly does a player of that stature get attached to a deal that altered NFL history? The Chiefs’ decision to trade Alex Smith was a big deal.
