For the first time in 20 years, there were two gold medals and five medals in total – in sailing, sport climbing, and judo. Overall, the Austrians collected 25 top-10 finishes, including one fourth, four fifth, three sixth, one seventh, and one eighth place. Medals were won by the usual suspects, namely sailors, although Valentin Bontus' gold in Formula Kite came as something of a surprise. Thanks to Lara Vadlau and Lukas Mähr, sailing has taken the top spot among Austrian sports 88 years after the last medal in weightlifting. Austria's standing in the still young Olympic sport of climbing was not fully reflected in the bronze medals won by Jakob Schubert and Jessica Pilz.
