Snorkelling Tangalooma Wrecks with 6-Year-Olds | Moreton Island Family Adventure 🌊🏝️ Just before Christmas 2026, my family headed to the iconic Tangalooma Wrecks on beautiful Moreton Island — and it was my very first time visiting! 🌴✨ I honestly couldn’t believe how stunning it was. The water was crystal clear, the sand was pure white, and the marine life was everywhere. This special trip was with my family, including my 6-year-old niece and nephew (twins!) 💙 We had three adults supervising closely in the water, and both kids wore lifejackets for extra support and safety. Watching their faces light up as they snorkelled over shipwrecks for the first time was pure magic. 🌏 Why Moreton Island is So Famous Moreton Island is: - The 3rd largest sand island in the world - Approximately 75% National Park - Just a ferry ride from Brisbane, Queensland - Home to the famous Tangalooma Wrecks (15 intentionally sunk ships) - Known for calm, protected snorkelling waters and abundant marine life The wrecks were sunk to create a safe anchorage and now form a thriving artificial reef filled with tropical fish, coral growth, and amazing underwater visibility — making it one of the best snorkelling spots near Brisbane. 🐠 Why Learning to Swim Opens Up Adventures Like This This is exactly why I’m so passionate about teaching children to swim. Swimming isn’t just about pool lessons — it opens doors to real-world adventure. When kids learn to swim, they gain: * Water confidence in open environments * Strong breathing control * Safety awareness * Physical strength & coordination * The freedom to explore oceans, reefs & beaches Learning to swim gives children independence and unlocks experiences like snorkelling, surfing, ocean swimming, and family travel adventures. Swimming creates opportunity. 🛟 Safety First – Always The day we went was overcast, but lifeguards confirmed conditions were still safe to swim. ✔️ We checked current conditions with lifeguards ✔️ We had 3 adults supervising in the water ✔️ The twins wore lifejackets ✔️ We stayed within calm, protected areas Ocean conditions can change rapidly, so always check with lifeguards before entering the water and ensure children are confident swimmers with close adult supervision. This was my first time to Moreton Island, and it absolutely won’t be my last. Snorkelling the Tangalooma Wrecks with kids is such a powerful reminder that when children learn to swim, the world truly opens up.
